Huangguoshu Waterfall, located in the scenic province of Guizhou, is China’s largest waterfall. It has 18 waterfalls of various sizes and other geographic formations such as caves, stone forests, undercurrents and ravines. The beauty of Huangguoshu is breathtaking, but the ethnic peoples living in Guizhou are equally fascinating. More than a dozen different tribes live here. Guizhou is a hilly country, difficult to access in the past. Its isolation has made it possible for the ethnic people’s legacy to remain intact. Keren Su’s first trip to Guizhou was in early 1980’s and he was thrilled with their rich heritages. The Miao is the largest tribe in Guizhou and they still use the lunar calendar to plan their agricultural and festival schedule. Keren has traveled to this region time and time again. During their traditional festivals, the girls are dressed in their best with richly embroidered robes and exquisite silver jewelry. They play the reed, beat the drum, fight the bull, sing songs and dance to the music. In this room of Huangguoshu, Keren introduces not only the natural scenery, but the rich heritages of its people. You will see the silver jewelry Keren collected, including pendant, hair pins and earrings. The Miao people are great textile artists. Keren displays part of a bamboo loom which has been used for generations. Throughout the lodge, you will see many embroidery and batik pieces used in their traditional clothing.
